Christmas Postal Advice 2017

Christmas is by far the busiest time of the year for the postal service. On top of all the people sending cards and gifts to loved ones, there’s a huge increase in items ordered online. This year Christmas Day falls on a Monday, so there will be no post of Christmas Eve. So when is the last posting day for Christmas? How late you can post something and have it delivered to the recipient before Christmas Day depends on where you are sending it to and how much you are willing to spend. If you are posting abroad then it may already be too late to use some economy services. The last day for the economy service to Africa and the Middle East is 16th November, but for the rest of the world the ship has, quite literally, sailed.
There is still time to use International standard and international tracked services. For Africa and the Middle East you must post by 2nd December, which s a Saturday. Wednesday 6th December is the last day for Cyprus, Malta, Asia, Far East, and most of Eastern Europe. If you are posting to the Caribbean, or to Central and South America then you must have sent the package by Thursday 7th December. The last service for Greece, Turkey, Australia, New Zealand goes on Saturday 9th December. Wednesday 13th December is the last call for Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Poland. The following day, Thursday 14th December, is the last posting day for Canada, Finland, Sweden and the USA. Friday 15th December is the deadline for Austria, Denmark, Iceland, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain and Switzerland. And finally, if you are posting to Belgium, France, Ireland or Luxembourg you have until Saturday 16th December.

The rules are different of you are posting to a forces address using BFPO, the deadline is Monday 11th December for static and Monday 27th November for operational HM Forces. If you are posting in the UK you have a choice of postal options. Royal Mail and Parcel Force Worldwide aims to deliver first class letters by the next working day, and second class in two or three. However this is not guaranteed and in busy times (like Christmas) it may take longer. To guarantee a delivery date you must pay for a signed for or special deliver service. That said Royal Mail and Parcel Force have given the date of Wednesday 20th December as the last posting date for both 2nd Class and 2nd Class Signed For, and the following day, Thursday 21st December, as the last date for 1st Class, 1st Class Signed For, and Special Delivery Guaranteed. If you want to post on Friday 22nd December that you will have to pay for Special Delivery Guaranteed Saturday Delivery if you want it there by the big day. After the 22nd you are too late to use Parcel Force Worldwide service, so if you want it there by the 25th you will have to find a reindeer and get it there yourself!

Need to speak to Parcelforce?

This can only be used if you sent your item directly though Parcelforce, if you used a 3rd party company such as:

Then you will need to make a claim directly to the third-party company, details of the processes should be available on each website.

Claims must be made in the following time scales:
• 30 days of despatch for all UK claims
• 15 days of despatch for globalexpress:
• 30 days of despatch for irelandexpress and globalpriority
• 120 days of despatch for globalvalue and HM Forces

Parcel force do not offer an email address of physical address for making complaints other than claims.

If you have complained to Admiral via the online claims portal or the help form and have not received a satisfactory answer then you can contact the retail ombudsman, you will need to make sure you have exhausted the internal compalints procedure before contacting the ombudsman. This is to ensure that the Parcelforce contact number have had a chance to close the claim prior to the ombudsman getting involved:
